Relocation of Orphanage Hogar Salem,Arecibo, Puerto Rico |
Deed Project Proposal — Winter 2007 |
James 1:27 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Currently, Hogar Salem is located on the second floor of this warehouse. |
The purpose of this Deed Project is to assist the orphanage Hogar Salem to prepare and relocate to a newly rented facility. Hogar Salem is a girls’ home that currently provides a safe haven to 15 girls ranging from ages eight to 18. These girls are either orphaned or have been abused or neglected.
Hogar Salem has been in existence for 18 years. However, it operates solely on government grants and donations. Because of its limited income and assistance from an inactive Board of Directors, Hogar Salem’s facilities suffered tremendous dilapidation and was threatened with closure by the Department of Family Services. Although temporary repairs were completed to facilitate its short-term continued operation, Hogar Salem was given six months back in August to relocate or its operating license would not be renewed (Click on Deed Projects for more info and pictures).
The relocation to the new home comes with lots of work and need of assistance. Monthly rent to facilitate use of this new home will increase 80%. Here are some of the other things that must happen in order to make this house a home for the children: · Seating (a nook) has to be installed around the kitchen wall in order to maximize its space. · General painting inside and outside the home. · Additional toilets, sinks, and cabinets must be installed in the main bathroom. · Storage space must be created. · Install a door and door frame for a bedroom. · A wall-long desk must be built to create a study/computer room. · A fence must be installed around the perimeter of the house. · General yard maintenance. · Because the current home does not have a yard, gardening tools and yard maintenance equipment must be purchased. · Old furniture in disrepair must be replaced (beds, dressers, sofas, etc). · Patio furniture purchased.
The total investment on this project will be $6,500. Our goal is to raise all the funds and complete the work by 15 December, allowing us to celebrate Christmas with the girls in a new and warm home. Please keep this project, all the people that will be helping, and these girls in your prayers. God Bless you. |
