Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Matthew 6:19-21

Deed Project Proposal

Financial Support for Hogar Remar School
La Libertad, El Savador
Spring 2009

Hogar Infantil Remar (Remar Children’s Home) is home to 88 children ranging from ages one to the teens.  Although this home receives all its children through the Salvadoran authorities and it is highly regulated by the government, it does not receive any support or funding from the government.  The Home fully depends on proceeds from various fund raising programs such as the sale of candles and disinfectants, and from contributions or donations.

Five years ago the directors of the Home decided to build and operate a school for the children because of the continuous harassment the children of the Home had to endure due to their “orphan” status.  With the help of generous donors, the school and other facilities within the Home became a reality.  In addition to the children from the Home, the school also welcomes poor children from the adjacent neighborhoods.  The school program is literally free, as the $5 per month donation requested from the families in the community for school supplies is unaffordable to many.   The school has 13 teachers, two who work without pay, and the others who collect a love offering ranging from $60 to  $200 per month, most of which only receive $150 per month to support their families.

Because of a significant decline in contributions and the ever increasing cost of operating the orphanage and the school, the Home is currently facing a serious financial crisis.  Help is needed to help defray some of the teachers’ expenses  (who still teach and provide their loving services despite their own personal needs), and other school expenses such as electricity.

Deeds of Love is collecting donations in order to make a $3,000 contribution to help Hogar Infantil Remar.  The educational and emotional help the children receive from this school is invaluable.  The school and the Home provide the few things these children can count on in their short, yet volatile lives.

The pictures below depict the school, some of the children from the home, and the dormitories within the orphanage.  There is also a picture of some candles made there to be sold to defray the expenses of the home.

Deed Project Summary

Financial Support for Hogar Remar School
La Libertad, El Savador
Spring 2009

Once again, the loving, generous, and timely support of the friends of Deeds of Love enabled the hand of the Lord to be felt among those in need.  Our Deed Project aimed at helping the school that provides the educational services to the children from Remar Children’s Home and the surrounding community in La Libertad, El Salvador.  For several months, these teachers, who on the average earn $150 per month, had not received pay for their services and were themselves feeling the stress of the difficult financial situation in El Salvador.

Deeds of Love provided a love offering (grant) of $3,000 to help defray two months’ salary for the teachers.   In keeping with the mission of Deeds of Love, education is an important element to the development and future of all these children.

God Bless you for the support!
